The REBOUND project — Reshaping Basketball Organizations Using Circular Economy and New Developments — has officially reached its conclusion, marking the end of an 18-month journey dedicated to promoting circular economy principles in basketball organisations.
Launched in January 2025, REBOUND brought together partners from Greece, Spain and Italy to explore how basketball clubs, coaches, athletes and sport staff can adopt more sustainable practices in their everyday activities and during the organisation of sport events.
Throughout the project, the consortium worked to connect basketball with practical circular economy approaches, focusing on resource efficiency, waste reduction, reuse of materials, sustainable sport activities and awareness raising within basketball communities.
A key achievement of REBOUND was the implementation of its training and awareness-raising activities across the partner countries. The consortium delivered four Train-the-Trainer seminars and twelve training seminars, supporting the development of knowledge and practical competences among 194 participants. In parallel, the project’s dissemination activities reached more than 1,000 sport-sector stakeholders, contributing to wider awareness of circular economy practices in sport.
The project also developed practical resources, educational materials and an online repository to support future use and replication by basketball clubs, coaches, sport organisations and stakeholders interested in applying circular economy practices in sport.
Although REBOUND formally ends, its results remain available and its message continues:
“Basketball can be more than a game. It can contribute to sustainability, responsible resource use, community awareness and smarter sport practices”.
