Within the framework of the REBOUND project, partner Evnikos Sports Club implemented the initiative “Pass a Book” as part of its Fun Basket activities, successfully combining sport, education, and circular economy values.
During the initiative, children exchanged books and fairy tales they already owned, giving new life to materials that might otherwise remain unused. Through this simple yet meaningful action, young athletes were introduced to the concepts of reuse, sharing, and responsible consumption in an age-appropriate and engaging way.
The activity demonstrated how sport can serve as a powerful vehicle for promoting sustainability and social values, encouraging children to understand that circular economy principles can be applied not only in everyday life, but also within sports environments.
The “Pass a Book” initiative stands as a good practice example of how basketball clubs can integrate sustainability into grassroots sport activities, fostering environmental awareness while strengthening teamwork, trust, and community spirit.
The initiative is featured in the REBOUND Online Repository under the category Waste Prevention and Reuse, offering inspiration and practical guidance for clubs, organizations, and educators interested in applying similar actions.
